New Energy Challenge 2025

From November 17 to 19, Helsinki hosted the finals of the New Energy Challenge 2025, marking the tenth edition of this flagship event. Twelve promising start-ups and scale-ups were invited to pitch their transformative energy technologies to an expert jury – and to connect with investors, innovators, and industry leaders at Slush, one of Europe’s leading start-up gatherings.

This year’s challenge focused on two critical themes for achieving a net-zero future: renewable (green) hydrogen and carbon removal technologies. All finalists benefitted from tailored coaching, networking opportunities, and expert guidance to refine their business models and collaboration proposals.

After three days of inspiring pitches and discussions, KC8 Capture Technologies and Ammobia emerged as the winners. Both now have the opportunity to work with Shell to explore and shape potential collaborations that could contribute to the energy transition. We also congratulate WASE, winner of the People’s Choice Award, for capturing the audience’s vote with their innovative proposal for waste-to-energy systems.

A big thank you to all twelve finalists for making this milestone edition of the New Energy Challenge truly memorable! Watch the highlights from the finals in our aftermovie.
